Beagles are very intelligent and cute breeds of dogs that you would love to live with, which is why most people always want them around. As puppies, they are one of the liveliest dogs on the planet and can give you more joy and happiness than humans can offer.
Almost all dogs are friendly and energetic from birth, but not all dogs remain that way, when they grow old, which is why you don’t just get any dog you see, you always want to ensure that the dog is worth the trouble.
So what is a beagle lifespan?
Beagle Life Expectancy
The average lifespan of a beagle is 12 to 15 years. Now that’s a lot of time to spend with your mutt. One thing you should know about dogs is that their breeds determine how long they will live, so you probably wouldn’t expect a German shepherd dog to have the same lifespan as the beagle; the German Shepherd would outlive the beagle.
Another factor that may hinder how old do beagles live is the hereditary health issues it may have. See a dog that has health issues, and you see a dog that won’t live long. Now, most beagles out there are mostly clean from hereditary health issues of course, but where you look at one with health issues, then you should know that the dog may not live long.
There is a famous saying; hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

What Is The Lifespan Of A Beagle Compare To Other Breeds Of Dogs?
When we started, I said that the average life expectancy of a beagle is different from the lifespan of another dog, because the breed genetic makeup is usually a serious consideration.
One thing to note however is the fact that the lifespan of the beagle is relatively average, compared to the ordinary life of other breeds of dogs. For instance, while the lifespan of the beagle is 12 to 15 years, with a 13.5-year median, the lifespan of an Irish wolfhound is just 8 to 10 years.
Although the average life of a beagle is considered a pretty long time, there is, however, a dog that lives for up to 16 to 20 years. This dog is a rare Xoloitzcuintle dog.
Aside from these two particular cases, the lifespan of a beagle in comparison to other breeds is relatively the same. When considering the analogy above, with the German shepherd and the beagle, one thing is sure; although the kind of dogs has a minimal role to play in the life expectancy of the dogs, it shouldn’t be ruled out entirely.
Tiny dogs that fit into a cup should not be expected to live as long as an Alsatian or a bulldog. There has to be some level of life expectancy difference between them.
What Causes The Death of Beagles?
They are so many causes of death for all breeds of dogs; from catching the flu, to die of old age, and even domestic home accidents, but one of the significant causes of death usually happens during their infancy (puppy) stage, when they are most vulnerable.
For instance, a puppy that has caught an infection, if not taken proper care of, may soon die. Over the years, some scientists believe that the diseases are usually contagious and are very likely to affect a healthy puppy when you put it with a sick one.
So probably, you own two or more puppy beagles, and you notice that one of them is showing signs of having an infection, the safe thing to do is to separate it from the healthy one, as soon as possible so that the virus does not spread.
Even when the puppies are vaccinated, it will be safe to still keep them aside for a while, because there is this tendency that also when the pups are treated, the infection may be so fatal that the vaccination may have little or no effect on it, thus the need to watch and wait.
If the symptoms persist, then you are left with the option of either putting it down or isolation, which isn’t good for pups. Some fatal infections include leptospirosis; this is a bacterial infection and what it does is to infect the kidney, liver, eyes, and even the central nervous system of the young pup (and even teen and adult dogs).
Another cause of death that no dog owner put into consideration is the fact that dogs get traumas. Dropping a beagle pup could be traumatic for it and may kill it. Some other intense occasions would be stepping on the poor thing or a car accident.
Congenital diseases may also take the life of your lovely beagle prematurely. These kinds of conditions are usually hereditary defaults and may be passed down through birth. This form of death is the saddest form of death to me because it occurs without the fault of the dog.
Following a chart, we will now see what the leading cause of death in beagles are;
23.1%-cancer, 16%-trauma, neurological diseases-13%, amongst other things
Can You Lengthen The Average Age Of Beagle?
If science can make airplanes suspend on the air for hours, despite its weight and size, then this shouldn’t be a problem for them. Time to take my head out of the cloud however and look at ways to increase the life expectancy of your lovely beagle.
The first thing to consider when looking out for your beagle’s health and life elongation is exercise. Exercises are one of the surest ways of ensuring that your beagles stay healthy and live longer. The owner can determine the level at which you exercise your puddle of sunshine.
Is he or she one who even loves exercise in the first place? How long do they do their training? All these questions will help you to make up your mind about how long your dog will live.
Also, look at the weight of the dog. An overweight dog dies fast from heart problems, and the underweight dogs may die from starvation. Ensure the weight of the dog is within 22 to 30 pounds for pups and growing beagles and 25 to 35 pounds for adult beagles.
Always check if your dogs have small lumps on its body. These lumps are wormlike kinds of insects that are sucking the life out of the poor thing
Check that your pup or dog is not running a fever because this could kill them in days.
When the pup or adult beagle drink too much water, it is an indication of the fact that something is wrong with it. At this point, it is wise to see a vet doctor.
